As a kid, Halloween was always my favorite holiday. I could dress up like a princess (usually Cinderella) and gets lots of candy. I don't know about your "Trick or Treating" experience, but when I was a kid, there were literally hundreds of kids out "Trick or Treating," and practically every house was giving out candy. A few houses would go "all out" every year. They'd have their yards all decorated and have spooky music playing. They even come to the door dressed up as some monster or ghost! It was a lot of fun!
These days things are different. We barely get any "Trick or Treaters." But, if I don't buy enough candy, we'll usually get more! But, not nearly as many as when I was a kid.
However, now a days, the costumes are probably a lot safer. I think the ones that my brother and I used to wear were flammable! They'd come in a box and there would be a character mask that had small holes in it for your eyes, nose, and mouth. Your face would get real hot and sweaty and the rest of the costume wouldn't be too bad, but they weren't made for cooler weather. It's a good thing that I grew up in Southern California.
The one thing that I didn't have growing up was Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World! I did most of my "Trick or Treating" in the early to mid 1970's, so things were still kind of slow at Walt Disney World compared to all of the special events that go on now.
Disneyland also has a special Halloween Party. It's on a smaller scale than MNSSHP at Walt Disney World. But both capture the meaning and magic of Halloween. Candy and kids!
I would have loved to go "Trick or Treating" at Disneyland when I was a kid. That would have been the ultimate Halloween experience for me. Candy and Disneyland!
