The MagicBand is a reusable wristband with embedded technology with radio frequency identification (RFID) capabilities enabling guests to simply tap these bands against glowing Mickey Mouse heads throughout theme parks and hotels to activate a variety of functions. Visitors’ personal information will not be stored and the tracking technology is not GPS-based.
Disney already got approval for this technology and now Congressman Markey is concerned? Is there nothing else going on in the world that would, I don't know, be of more concern than picking on Disney? And if there really was a concern, then why didn't he just look into it before addressing this issue so publicly?
Bob Iger, CEO and President of the Walt Disney Co. sounded pretty angry about Congressman Markey's letter concerning the MagicBand stating, "We are offended by the ludicrous and utterly ill-informed assertion in your letter … that we would in any way haphazardly or recklessly introduce a program that manipulates children, or wantonly puts their safety at risk,” CEO Bob Iger wrote. “Had you or your staff made the slightest effort, you would have found most of the answers to your questions already existed and were publicly available online.”
Does the congressman really think that Disney would do something that would potentially be harmful to children? Disney has done their "homework." Disney is dedicated to insuring the best in family entertainment and would not be so careless as to do something that was potentially harmful.
Just in my opinion, we haven't heard the last on this issue.
